Manchester City Wins the Premier League!
Today has been a day of wonder for all football fans across the UK and the world as both Manchester City and Manchester United took to the green grass of the football pitch to see who can make history. On the one side you had Manchester United trying to extend the record of the most number of league titles won. On the other side you had Manchester City trying to prove they are a worthy of the title and to show Manchester United that they no longer have a monopoly on football and the city of Manchester.
With Manchester City and Manchester United both on 86 points but with City having the superior goal difference this last match of the season meant there was everything to play for. City had a goal difference of 63, some eight more than United so effectively United needed City to lose. The question is what happened?
For Manchester United an away match at Sunderland beckoned, for Manchester City a home tie against Queens Park Rangers. After 20 minutes the deadlock was broken for United at Rooney bundled one in at the back post, this meant that United took the top spot on 89 points with City on 87 points as they were still 0-0 with QPR. On 38 Minutes the title swung into City’s favour as Zabaleta drilled a shot at Kenny from 6 yards and scored.
Again the title changed back into Uniteds favour after half time as Cisse scored for Queens Park Rangers to make it 1-1 in their match against City. On 54 minutes City gained some momentum in the match as Joey Barton was sent off for QPR after hitting Tevez. Even after seeing red he then kicked the back of Aguero’s legs and tried to head butt Kompany on his way off the pitch. In the 59th minute Aguero thought he had scored from close range but Paddy Kenny managed to claw the ball off the line with a fine save.
The deadlock was broken at the Etihad Stadium in the 65th minute, but it was 10 men QPR who scored to make it 2-1 with Jamie Mackie scoring a header. This meant United had an even bigger advantage. In the other Manchester match United were still trying hard but Sunderland were being resolute in their defending.
It came to the final throes of the match as United beat Sunderland and were waiting on the Man City result. City in the final 5 minutes proved their worth as Dzeko scored a blistering header in the 91st minute and then in the final minute Aguero and Balotelli played a one-two with Aguero smashing the ball past Kenny to win the match 3-2 and take the title.
The stadium erupts, the players go wild, Mancini dances on the touchline.... while this is going on United find out that City have scored and are winning, their heads go down and they leave the pitch at Sunderland. Manchester City wins the Premier League title in the final minute!
